Camarillo, Calif. October 16, 2017 – The Pleasant Valley Education Foundation (PVEF) has announced that there will be no CineMagic production in 2018. CineMagic has been PVEF’s longest running program and has instructed thousands of local elementary and middle school youth in music, acting and theater production.

CineMagic was first produced in 2001 as a one-off fundraiser for the foundation. It was an instant success and its popularity insured its continued return ever since. Participation was focused primarily on 4th through 8th grades but occasionally other grades were allowed to participate. Many CineMagic alumni continued to return year after year to partake in the CIneMagic Directors-in-Training program.

“The magic of CineMagic was the confidence development we saw in the kids that participated,” said Bob Taylor, PVEF president. “It was truly a pleasure to watch normally shy children blossom into expressive extroverts through their participation in the program. I will miss seeing the joyful faces of hundreds of smiling kids singing and dancing together in each year’s production.”

CineMagic never turned down kids because they lacked innate talent. The only requirement was to regularly attend rehearsals. The foundation even had a scholarship program to cover costume costs for needy families. At one time over 220 kids were participating and it proved nearly impossible to find a stage to handle all of them.

“It is sad that we finally have a large-enough theater within Camarillo and we must skip 2018,” said Sharon Taylor, Executive Director of PVEF, referring to Rancho Campana High School's performing arts center. “We will continue to work with the Pleasant Valley School District to find new ways to fund the program and bring it back.”

The recession that began in late 2008 cut back contributions to all charities, including the PVEF. Although CineMagic had initially been a fundraiser, it was converted into a program supported by the foundation. Fundraising never sprung back to pre-2008 levels. It requires public support of at least $30K a year to continue operations. The last few years of operation have only been possible though creative partnership with the Pleasant Valley School District’s own music programs.
